There are many applications of AIs that are in situations where it is not wielded by anyone. They are given free roam and in fact participate in ways to, through persuasion and other means, to harm humans without anyone at the reins, so to speak. One example that you probably heard countless times from Tristan is the first contact of the social media ranking algorithm. It is a… I guess you can say it started as a tool for getting more clicks to advertisers, but then it evolved and through reinforcement became this thing that through touch screens enable a different kind of relationship, namely addiction, from human fingers to the touch surface. At that point, I wouldn’t call it a tool anymore. We’re more like tools to that rage polarization and hate-seeking algorithm.
