Now, with the DMA, you have large players who don’t want to and then you have the issue of encryption. I have seen a proposal from Matrix, and I have seen a proposal from Meta. There was a workshop a month or so ago where these were presented and I think the Matrix proposal is unworkable because you don’t want a man in the middle on your client, acting as a switchboard. I think the Meta proposal is shallow at this point in that it proposes using the Signal protocol but I have not seen a specification.
